Comment:
I haven't used a walkie-talkie since I was in high school. (Long ago.) With everyone walking around with cell phones you might conclude walkie-talkies are outdated. But these devices have some real advantages. One advantage is the lack of a monthly phone bill. Another advantage is not having to worry too much about the safety of these two-way radios. Use them at the beach or drop them in the snow. Worst comes to worst you can pick up replacements for well under $100.00.
There are also uses you might not have considered. How about as an in-house intercom to call family members to dinner? Or keeping in touch between cars to avoid losing one another. Perhaps calling your children home from around the neighborhood.
Features of note: 22 channels, QT noise filter, VibraCall Alert, Talk Handsfree, Choice of call tones.
The hands free feature is nice if you're using your hands for some other purpose.
To check out the TalkAbout's voice quality and real distance capabilities I enlisted my assistant Jim to drive away from our offices while checking in via the "Talkabout." Our tests took place on the road and in the woods of a New England suburb. Tests done on the water or in the city would probably show different results.
The bottom line is that a one mile range is what you can realistically expect. Which is plenty, if you're like me and you just want to request another drink be brought out to the pool.
