Comment:

The problem: There are good movies and bad movies. How do we separate the wheat from the chaff?

A bad movie.
The Solution: Use the following features of the Internet Movie Database.

You want to watch a movie. Maybe it's at Blockbuster, on cable, satellite or in the theatre. What you don't want to do is waste your time and money on a bad movie. We all hate sitting through bad movies.

A good movie.
So, click on over to The Internet Movie Database and enter the names of the movies you are considering into the "Search the database" window. When your movie page appears check the "User rating". Your movie has been rated by hundreds if not thousands of IMDB visitors on a scale of 1 to 10 stars. It's been my experience that anything rated six stars or better won't disappoint me. You, on the other hand, will have to find your own star level.

Now spend a few minutes reading the reviews to weed out or weed in things like excessive sex and violence depending on how you feel about them.

Lastly, click on the little yellow stars themselves. This will bring up a page with voter demographics. You don't want to be fooled into viewing a movie because a thousand teenagers rated it a ten - unless you're a teenager. So check here to see how males voted versus females and how your own age group voted. You may still end up seeing a movie you don't love but this is the best system I've found to avoid the really distasteful flicks.
