Most of the credit for this page goes to Steve Bass over at PC World magazine. That is where I read about these nifty utilities for enhancing computer memory.

Fix-It 2000

Step One. Defragment your hard disk weekly. You can use your windows defrag utility or try "Fix-It Utilities 2000" for $34.00 which apparently works 40% faster and includes a number of other useful programs.

Step Two. Add to your computer's memory if at all possible. The more the better. Why?

Cacheman 496 KB & Free

Because when you use multiple applications and your computer runs out of RAM it starts using "virtual memory" or hard disk cache. The more you use the hard disk to access memory the slower your computer will perform. Try using Cacheman to optimize your disk cache settings. It's only a 496KB download and it's free!

MemTurbo 750KB & $20.00

Step three. Using lots of applications during the day will drain your memory resources. Why? Because some apps don't release the RAM they've been using after you close them. This so called "memory leakage" will eventually force you to reboot your computer. Guess what? There's a utility to help prevent this. MemTurbo retrieves memory lost to DLL files no longer being used and memory that has leaked away.

PrcView 68 KB & Free

Step Four. One last neat utility is PrcView. This freeware provides you with a viewing of which applications are running and how much memory they are using. Although I only opened four applications after turning on my computer I counted 21 apps running. It's a free download.
