Comment:
Brother George took it upon himself to open The Pocket Internet
Online Store which traffics in teddy bears, T-shirts, caps, hats, mouse pads, and
mugs.
Unbeknownst to him I ordered the large ceramic coffee mug on January 11. Do I get an email acknowledgment of the
order from The Pocket Internet? No. It comes from some place called CafePress.com. Who the hell are they?

Only 'til Feb. 14.

No fool, my brother, he does not actually manufacture and distribute these items from his basement. They are subcontracted
out to a firm which provides customized items for many Web sites. So who knew? The person who bothered to read
the "Secure Checkout - Please Confirm Your Order" page where it says "PLEASE NOTE: This store is
powered by CafePress.com."
In any event, the order is acknowledged with a promise to ship within 3-5 business days for a total of USD18.29
(there's the small matter of shipping charges).
On January 14 I was notified my mug was on its way and on January 17 it arrived via Priority Mail well packed in
peanuts (not biodegradable) and bubble wrap (fun).
Sturdy, with a diner-like 1 lb. 2 oz. heft, its lettering is handsome and clean, but the graphic is a little soft.
Advertised
as dishwasher safe, I put the mug through my best Consumer Reports tests. Repeated abuses by a KitchenAid (five
to be exact) left the mug as good as new. And it didn't explode in the microwave. What else could you want?
Now, the bad news. This "15 ounce" container ain't what it claims to be. According to a Pyrex® cup
-- the internationally recognized standard of liquid measurement -- it is in fact only a 14 ounce mug!
I know of no beverages that come in 15 ounce sizes, and the mug will easily contain the traditional 12 oz. soft
drink with room to spare, but it's the principle of the thing. I have been shorted one ounce.
Fortunately, there's a 30-day return policy for replacement or refund.
Conclusion: Nice mug. Buy hundreds for your family and friends. |
