COMMENT:
The Internet and cable TV have made keeping a weather eye all too easy. But if you want readings from your neighborhood
(or close to it), this is the solution.
Weatherbug provider AWS relies on over 4,000 US schools equipped with weather instruments running 24/7. At worst
you'll get hourly updates. At best you'll see real-time readings.
During the setup phase enter your zip code and AWS will select the nearest school or schools from which to draw
data.
The Weatherbug then sits in your task tray (down there with the little yellow speaker) in the form of the current
temperature .
Clicking it brings up the local weather window featuring all manner of information.
A menu lets you select
weather Alerts, InstaCam in case you can't see outside, Radar pictures, 5-Day forecasts, Travel Wx for conditions
in other parts of the country, Cool Links to more weather resources.
When there's a National Weather Service alert the Weatherbug icon will flash at you, even make rude sounds.
OK, so why's it free? Because AWS has sponsorships from local TV stations. Likely your favorite local personalities
will be smiling at you from the Weatherbug window.
The only complaint we have is our nearest InstaCam is 50 miles west of here. On the other hand, since it is west
we can see the weather coming.
This one's a keeper.
