Because you're not paved with gold like your brother, perhaps you have an older, incompatible version. Maybe a file has been corrupted and you're dying to save what you can. Open the offending document in TextExtract and it will search out strings of text which you can save as a .txt file, without the garbage. Don't look for any documentation -- operation is simple. And don't set the number of characters in a string too small or you'll get all manner of gibberish.
