Make frames for zoom effect.
|
Add a little pizzazz to your still digital images using pan
and zoom effects (tracking shots). A detailed help file comes with this freebie explaining almost all you need
to know about turning a still into an .avi movie show.
One important factor it doesn't cover is compression. When you're dealing with the recommended large images (1000
x 800 pixels+) at 25 frames per second (which can be changed), the resulting .avi file can be many megabytes enormous.
Fortunately, three MPEG-4 options are available when you turn the individual

tracking frames into motion. We found Version 2 to provide the optimum compression. Even then, and with a low frame
rate, our zoom picture is 262KB. The pan version compressed more at
63KB.
Because some of Rostrum's terms are not familiar to most (there is no glossary), you'll have to experiment (as
we did) to obtain the best combination of file size and appearance.

Setting "near" frame for zoom.
|
If you don't like what you see, delete the .avi file from your folder, then try again. You don't have to create
the .bmp images (from which the .avi is assembled) all over again.
Another matter not covered in the help file is the addition of a .wav (sound) file to your creation. It can be
located anywhere on your drive, be it a sound effect, music, or your own monolog.
Finally, and this is emphasized in the software, be sure to use an empty folder for each project. If there's anything
in it to start with, Rostrum will not function.
RATING: Due
to the effort involved, we don't recommend Rostrum Camera's use on most graphics. But for those that can benefit
(wide angle, surprise ending), it's a fun application.
