COMMENT:
Have you not grown weary of those X-10 or NextCard "pop-under" ads? How frustrating is it when you stumble
across porn sites that keep popping up more windows every time you close one?
Pop-Up Stopper will end
those woes. Unfortunately, it comes with a price. Not dollars, but sites that don't work properly, and email links
that won't open browser pages.
You can work around most of those difficulties by pressing the Shift or Ctrl key while clicking links. Is it worth
the effort? If you are a surfer - trying one site after another - it's a good tool to have. If you spend most of
your time at a few favorite sites that don't have pop-up (or pop-under) ads, probably not.
You can deactivate Pop-Up Stopper from your system tray if you find a site that uses pop-ups for information or
entertainment, which more and more are doing.
If you'd like to have
Pop-Up Stopper available, but not automatically loaded at start up, right click on the system tray icon, click
"Preferences" and uncheck "Start Pop-Up Stopper when Windows starts."
Pop-Up Stopper's icon will flash when it is doing its job. There's even an option to have it play a sound as well.
Until this whole pop phase has passed, we'd recommend keeping
this one available.
Update from the Pop-Up Stopper's maker(January 2002):
"We wanted to let you know that our newest release, v2.6, now includes support for Internet Explorer 6x and Netscape 4x. The biggest new features are Netscape support, new sounds, and that it will no longer be necessary to hold CTRL to allow new links most of the time.
