Stop schlepping between keyboard and mouse.

NAME and DOWNLOAD LINK: Hot Chime
DESCRIPTION: Create
your own keyboard shortcuts.
SIZE: 37KB,
self-executing.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Win98+, 64MB RAM, 400+ MHz CPU, almost any browser, Visual
Basic 6 runtime dlls & Ocx files (while you probably already have the last item in your operating system, you
can download it here).
COMMENT: Everyone has a few favorite "Favorites" and
handful of overused programs. Why reach all the way over there to your mouse when you can launch these goodies
right from your keyboard?
Hot Chime is a tiny program that allows you to minimize torque stress on your elbow by striking three or four keys
to bring up The Pocket Internet, MS Word, a sound file, graphics program, folder, darn near anything.
To operate, hit the Hot Key, type the "Hot Word" (the combination of letters you've assigned to a site,
program or other), strike Enter. Up comes what you want and Hot Chime goes into hiding.
The Hot Key can be the rarely used "Pause/Break," or "Caps Lock," "F11," "F12."
Make sure the key you choose doesn't conflict with another program.
Keep your Hot Words as simple as possible to avoid memory trauma. The default for Google is a simple "g".
The Pocket Internet could be "p."
After selecting a Word, you can type, copy and paste, or drag-and-drop a URL, for example, into the "Action"
window. For most .com sites you can type in just the domain name minus "www" and ".com" e.g.,
"thepocket."
That little folder to the right of the "Action" window lets you browse your drives for commonly used
items.
"F1" through "F5" are pre-designated for search sites, but can be modified if you insist. Cleverly,
when you change one of those assignments the Hot Chime label will change as well.
Don't worry about the "Sync with Server" option, it's not yet functional. If you need to "Hide"
Hot Chime using your mouse, be sure to press "Hide" not "Exit." The other options are pretty
self-explanatory.
When you're finished puttering around inside Hot Chime, press the Hot Key to hide it. And, if you don't want to
see all the options when using Hot Chime, click "Less Options."
RATING: For what it's designed to do, out of a top score of 13 we give this one an 11. It's small, fast and convenient.
We would give it a 13, but that doesn't leave room for improvement.
