Search results are displayed like a normal Google search would be. Results also show icons on the left that identify file types. Searches of Web history may also show a Web page thumbnail for easier identification. Results can also be filtered by file type.

Because Google Desktop Search is under development as a beta product it only supports searches in certain programs. Search email from Outlook 2000+ and Outlook Express 5+, files in Office 2000+ (TXT, HTML, DOC, XLS, and PPT formats), chats from AOL 7+ and AOL Instant Messenger 5+, and Web pages in Internet Explorer 5+. Check for updated versions with expanded search capabilities. Google Desktop Search stores indexed information only on your computer and Web search results displaying your files are only visable to you and not sent to Google. Read their privacy policy for any additional concerns. Search results are returned quickly and file indexing doesn't appear to slow down your computer. Despite its limitations Google Desktop Search is a fast and organized way to retrieve info from your computer.
