NAME:
BCWipe Click on "Download Centre"
DESCRIPTION:
Serious file deletion program for paranoids, adulterers and
drug dealers.
SIZE: 524KB, self-executing
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Windows 95/98 and NT 4.0
COMMENT:
You know "deleting" a file, even from the Recycling Bin in
Windows 9x, does not get rid of it. The name is changed but it remains intact until another file overwrites it. That's
why programs such as Norton Utilities can undelete recently trashed files. If you have documents that, for whatever
reason, should not ever be shared by others, BCWipe will clean 'em right out. It will even wipe (a.k.a. shred) your
free swap file and free disk space. How completely? That's up to you. The most robust option meets U.S. Department of Defense recommendations (DoD 5200.28-STD).
Wiping is not as fast as deleting and using the DoD version takes even longer because the file is wiped several times.
Haven't time? Your regular delete option remains.
Though you have to fight your way past some jargon, once you have selected your shredding options, it's just a matter of right clicking a file and selecting "Delete with wiping."
To wipe a file already in the Recycling Bin you must first "Restore" it.
