Need A File Uncompressed
Use the Wobzip Website to uncompress unusual files you might receive in an email such as: 7z, ZIP, GZIP, TAR, BZIP2, RAR, CAB, ARJ, Z, CPIO, RPM, DEB, LZH, SPLIT, CHM, ISO.
What is Windows ReadyBoost?
With Vista you can use a (USB) flash drive, to improve performance without having to add additional memory "under the hood." The flash memory device serves as an additional memory cache—that is, memory that the computer can access much more quickly than it can access data on the hard drive. Nothing to download.
Close Laptop Lid Without Shutting Down Computer
Click "Start" and choose "Control Panel." Select "Performance and Maintenance," then "Power Options." Select the "Advanced" tab then underneath the "When I close the lid of my portable computer" text, click the pull-down and choose "Do nothing." Click "OK."
Close All Your Tabs Except The Current One
Have a bunch of taps open? Avoid closing each tab manually by right-clicking the only tab you want to remain open in the browser and select "Close Other Tabs."
Use Google For A Reverse Phone Number Lookup
In the U.S. just use the format xxx-xxx-xxxx, and place the number in the Google search window. Seems to work better for business numbers than home numbers.
Ripping CDs At Higher Quality
If you have the storage space you can change the settings on your Windows Media Player to a lossless codec. This will give you the highest quality audio. In the Media Player right click the "Rip" tab and click "More Options..." In the "Format" window pick "Windows Media Audio Lossless." This can use up to 411MB per CD.
